Chengdu officially became Nashville's 9th Sister City in July 2020. The relationship began from a shared love and interest in all things music, with Chengdu hoping to learn from Nashville about how to build a music and tourism industry.
Chengdu is the capital of southwestern China's Sichuan province with a history that dates as far back as the 4th century B.C., when it served as capital for the Shu Kingdom. Chengdu is home to many temples, parks, and several UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Mount Qingcheng and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System as well as the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries.
It’s geographical location along with its ancient irrigation system have earned it the title of “Country of Heaven” as it is rich with flora and fauna. Additionally, Chengdu is considered one of the most important economic, financial, commercial, cultural, transportation, and communication centers in Western China. Its economy is diverse, with industries ranging from machinery, automobile, medicine, food, and information technology industries.
