CANDIDATE CITIES

Sister Cities of Nashville is currently building relationships with cities in several countries with the goal of establishing official sister-city partnerships. Countries for which committees have been formed include:

South Korea (Gwangjin-Gu)

Gwangjin-gu, Metropolitan Seoul, South Korea

Gwangjin-gu, with a population of 400,000, is one of the 26 districts of Seoul, South Korea. One of the world’s great mega-cities, Seoul is home to 13 million people and is recognized internationally as a leader in the IT industry. Visitors to Gwangjin-gu and Seoul can see modern skyscrapers alongside ancient temples and palaces. Located on the north side of the Han River, Gwangjin is home to sites including Techno Mart, Mount Achasan, Children’s Park and Konkuk University.

Since 2008, Nashville and Gwangjin have enjoyed civic and educational exchanges. Reciprocal high school exchanges have taken place between the two cities annually since 2010. The chairman and eight members Gwangjin City Council visited Nashville in December 2011 to meet with Nashville’s Metro Council and learn about its city governance.
