Organization
Sister Cities of Nashville is an active
volunteer organization connecting Nashvillians with friends around the world through cultural exchange and community partnership. It
is a chapter of Sister Cities International, which developed from a program begun in 1956 by President Dwight Eisenhower to promote international goodwill through citizen
diplomacy. Nashville's official sister cities are Belfast, Northern Ireland; Caen, France;
Edmonton, Canada; Magdeburg, Germany; Mendoza, Argentina; and Taiyuan, China. Additionally, Crouy, France is a Friendship
City, and Port de la Selva, Spain is a Municipality United in Friendship. Current candidate cities include Diyarbakir,
Turkey; Gwangjin-Gu, Metropolitan Seoul, South Korea; and Kamakura, Japan.
Sister Cities of Nashville was incorporated in 1990 as a 501(c)3
not-for-profit corporation. The board of directors is elected by the membership.
