The Sister Cities Board of Directors recently approved an agreement with partners
in our sister city of Magdeburg, Germany for the presentation of a month-long German Christmas Market in Nashville's
Hall of Fame Park during the 2008 holiday season. Modeled on the centuries-old German tradition, the Christmas Market
will offer German holiday food and drink specialities, authentic handcrafts, and craft demonstrations, along
with a daily schedule of holiday music and entertainment. For more information, visit the Christmas Market website at
www.nashvillechristmasmarket.com. More news.
Two official delegation visits this October -- to Magdeburg, Germany,
and Mendoza, Argentina -- are open to all members of Sister Cities.
Magdeburg
has invited Nashvillians to join their annual celebration of Germany's national holiday on October 3. Please contact Doug
Berry (dberry@hubbardberry.com) for more information about the program and travel plans. The delegation visiting Mendoza will depart on
October 24 and return on November 2. Please contact Phil Rasico (philip.d.rasico@vanderbilt.edu) to join this group or for more information.
All are invited to explore this important topic on
Thursday, September 18, 6:00pm, at a meeting sponsored by the China Committee of Sister Cities of Nashville and the Nashville
Chapter of the US-China Peoples Friendship Association. The location is Fulin's restaurant (782 Old Hickory Blvd,
east of I-65, 615-377-9788). Dr. Ming Wang will speak to the group on "Pearls
and Perils of Doing Business with China," and respond to questions. Dr. Wang is the founder and president of Tennessee's
first Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and is an internationally known eye surgeon. The TN Chinese Chamber of Commerce seeks
to serve as a bridge linking Tennessee and China businesses, and to help our state continue to grow in its export to China. In addition, Ms. Li Weaver Chief Representative of the Tennessee China Development Center in Beijing
(Tennessee's office in China) will be in town that week. If her schedule permits, she will briefly update the group
on activities since the office opened about two years ago. Li was the founding member of the SCN China Committee, and
this will be a homecoming! AND, Qiang Wu will provide a brief glimpse of the Beijing Olympics. Mark your calendar for 6pm, Thursday, September 18, Fulin's restaurant. Dinner is dutch-treat and optional.
