Argentinean Wine Dinner At the Mad Platter, June 3, 6:00 p.m.

Sister Cities of Nashville has partnered with Lipman Brothers and The Mad Platter Restaurant to offer an Argentinean Wine Dinner, featuring the wines of importer Vino del Sol.  The wines will be paired with a five-course meal showcasing the cuisine of Argentina.  The cost is $75.00 per person. A portion of the proceeds with benefit Sister Cities of Nashville's Mendoza exchange programs.  The menu includes Mini Tomato Tarts "Al Faina" con Boquerones; Pork Empanadas with Piperade; Ensalada Criolla (chopped salad with chorizo, cherry tomatoes and roquefort); Carne Smoked Flatiron Steak with Chimichurri, potato salad and poached egg; and Elvis con Dulce de Leche Helado (caramel ice cream). Nashville Students Travel to Gwangjin-Gu, South Korea, June 2 - 16

As part of a reciprocal exchange program, students from various Nashville high schools will travel to Gwangjin-Gu, Metropolitan Seoul, South Korea and will homestay with local families, attend Korean school (English classes), and tour historic sites as well as experience the culture and cuisine of Korea.

Nashville Students Travel to Magdeburg, Germany, June 4 - 19

A group of students from Nashville area high schools will visit Magdeburg this summer as part of a reciprocal change. They will homestay with local families and immerse themselves in the German culture and language for two weeks.

Belfast Historical Tour and Vacation, June 21-30

Sister Cities is sponsoring a fun-filled, educational 10-day trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland and surrounding areas in late June.  Participants will learn how the Scots-Irish people directly influenced the history of Nashville and have the opportunity to trace their geneaological Irish roots.  City tours of Belfast and walking tours of the countryside are planned as well. Korean Exchange Students Visit Nashville, January 10 - 24, 2010

Ten high school students from Gwangjin-Gu, Metropolitan Seoul, Korea will visit Nashville and area attractions as well as attend high school classes with their host family's student.  Gwangjin-Gu has invited 10 students from Nashville to visit in the summer 2010.  

Sister Cities of Nashville Annual Membership Meeting, Tuesday, January 26, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Delegation Visit to Belfast, Northern Ireland for the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival, February 24 - 28

This popular festival attracts thousands of music lovers to Belfast annually.  Belfast and Nashville-based singer songwriters will be showcased. Mendoza Committee Meeting, Wednesday, March 3, 5:30 p.m.

The Mendoza committee will convene at Sunset Grill on March 3 to discuss student exchanges and the upcoming visit by Mendoza Mayor Victor Fayad.

Belfast Nashville Songwriters' Showcase, March 11 - 13

The first showcase will take place at Dan McGuinness Pub, 1538 Demonbreun St., on Thursday, March 11 at 8:00 p.m.  Irish songwriters Aaron Shanley, Ricky Warwick and Anthony Toner will perform.  Admission is free.  On March 13, songwriters from Nashville and Belfast convene on stage at the Belcourt Theatre, 2102 Belcourt Ave., for a memorable eveningNashvillians David Olney. Bobby Bare, Jr., Elizabeth Cooke, and Pat Alger will join Irish songwriters Aaron Shanley, Iain Archer, Gareth Dunlop, and Ricky Warwick.  Admission is complimentary for SCN members, though you must reserve a ticket by emailing director@scnashville.org.  Doors to the Belcourt open at 7:15 p.m. with the performance at 7:45 p.m.

First Annual Cherry Blossom Walk Co-hosted by Sister Cities of Nashville and the Japan-America Society of TN, Saturday, March 27, 9:00 a.m.
 
Participants are asked to convene at Riverfront Park prior to the 9 a.m. start for a two- or three-mile walk on Nashville's Cumberland River Greenway.  The walk, which is free and open to all in the community, will be lead by Mayor Karl Dean, Consul General of Japan Hiroshi Sato, Rep. Jim Cooper, and Sister Cities of Nashville Board President David Briley.  The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the Cherry Blossom Festival, as well as the missions of Sister Cities of Nashville and The Japan-America Society of TN.

Nashville's Second Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, Saturday, March 27, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Co-sponsored by the Consul General of Japan in Nashville's office and the Japan-America Society of Tennessee, this event is free and open to the public.  A variety of activities highlighting Japanese culture will take place at the festival, which will take place at the downtown Public Square  Sister Cities of Nashville will have a display, with information about all of our sister cities as well as our candidate city in Japan.

Magdeburg, Germany Exchange Students Visit Nashville, March 27 - April 11

Students will home-stay with area families, attend local schools and visit Nashville attractions.

Taiyuan Committee meets March 29

SCN's Taiyuan (China) committee will meet Monday, March 29, 5:30-7:00 pm, to plan for Taiyuan delegation visit in May, and discuss penpal program with Taiyuan high school.  All are welcome.  Meet at Fulin's Restaurant (782 Old Hickory Blvd, Tel 615 377-9788).  Dinner is dutch-treat and optional.

Author Glenn Patterson Featured at Vanderbilt,  April 5, 7:00 p.m.

As part of the Gertrude and Harold S. Vanderbilt Visiting Writers Program, internationally acclaimed author Glenn Patterson, who is a Writer in Residence at Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, will read from his latest work.  The reading will take place at the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center at Vanderbilt University.  Patterson is the author of several award-winning novels, including Fat Lad, Burning Your Own and The International.  For more information, contact Margaret Quigley at 322-6527. 

Reception Honoring Senator Douglas Henry, Thursday, April 8,  5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

 A special reception will be held to honor Senator Douglas Henry.  The event will be held at Cohen Memorial Hall on Vanderbilt's Peabody Campus. Newly installed Consul General of France in Atlanta, Pascal Le Deunff will join us in honoring Senator Henry for his support of and contribution to international relations and foreign language learning in Middle Tennessee. 

The event is free and open to current members of Sister Cities, so double check to make sure your membership is current!  An e-invitation will be sent out prior to the event. RSVP's will be required.

World Taichi and Qigong Day in Nashville, Saturday, April 24

Join Taichi and Qigong instructors from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Dragon Park (Blakemore and 24th Ave.) for free demonstrations and workshops on varieties of forms and styles of Taichi and Qigong. Taichi is an ancient Chinese system of mind/body healing exercise and a Chinese martial arts form.  The Chinese Arts Alliance is hosting the annual World Taichi and Qigong Day in Nashville.
