Sister Cities of Nashville currently maintains high school exchanges with Caen, France; Magdeburg, Germany;
and Mendoza, Argentina, and exchanges are also being considered with Taiyuan, China. The exchanges typically bring students to
Nashville for two or three weeks during the regular school year and send Nashville-area students abroad for
approximately the same length of time during the summer.
Application for the Sister Cities student exchange program is open to all students in Nashville-area public
and private high schools. Participating students should normally have completed two years of course work in
the language spoken in the host country. Applicants should exhibit a strong commitment to the educational goals
of the program and the ability to serve as cultural ambassadors of the city.
Fees and Services
The program fee for participation in a student exchange is $250. This amount covers host family placement,
pre-departure orientation, chaperone accompaniment, room and board, and roundtrip airport transfers to and from host family
residence.
The program fee does not include airfare, telephone charges, local public transportation, entertainment
activities, and other incidental costs incurred by the student.
Hosting a Student
Sister Cities welcomes applications from Nashville-area families interested
in hosting an exchange student. Children in host families, like those traveling abroad, have the opportunity
to experience other cultures firsthand and build lasting friendships with students from our partner cities. Hosting
an exchange student is one of the most valuable and meaningful contributions of our members and supporters.
